I learned the basics in high school literature and never really branched out from there. But I suppose anyone who reads a book and enjoys it has studied structure to some degree. And of course the more you read, the more you study. I'm a big believer in balancing the study of fiction by reading and analyzing it personally along with academic analysis/study. I'll have to look into Aristotle's work on structure. I think it's necessary to add the importance of story structure, stressing the need for beginning writers to familiarize themselves with the different constructions and how to apply them to their own plots (Aristotle is a good start).Leigh M.
